These days, a cutting-edge playlist is as much of a runway accessory as the latest cross-body bag. So it's probably no surprise that New York Fashion Week had enough must-have tracks to fill a Fuse Channel mix tape.

From Carolina Herrera's custom-composed sonata recorded with the London Contemporary Orchestra to The Misshapes-curated playlist at Zac Posen to a New York City mash-up at DKNY, designers continued to turn up on the volume on their Fall 2013 runways. Here, ELLE.com has narrowed down the top ten songs setting the tone for the season.

1. "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G. vs. "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra at DKNY
Donna Karan's work is often a love letter to New York—which is something she happens to share with both Frank Sinatra and The Notorious B.I.G. This mash up between a Biggie classic and Ol' Blue Eyes' most famous ballad proved a brilliant fusion... and an anthem for Karan, who is ever in an Empire State of mind.

2. "Le Temps de l'Amour" by Françoise Hardy at Zac Posen
French music always gives the runway a certain je ne sais quoi and The Misshapes, who curated the music for Zac Posen, looked to none other than French chanteuse of the '60s, Francoise Hardy. This 1962 song, which was featured in Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, could easily serve as the soundtrack for a spaghetti western. Pairing it with the opulent and ladylike collection made the show all the more theatrical. (And also the start of a trend: Anna Sui used Mademoiselle Hardy's songs on her catwalk, too.)

3. "Pepper" by Butthole Surfers at Rodarte
Proving they're never afraid to venture into alternative territory, Kate and Laura Mulleavy referenced both the '70s and the '90s in their trippy desert collection, and tapped into their counterculture influences with this smoky, dripping-in-angst song from the experimental band's 1996 album Electriclarryland.

4. "Capriccio for Carolina" by Tom Hodge at Carolina Herrera
Carolina Herrera is always at the height of elegance, but this season, she incorporated a new kind of grandeur into her show. The designer collaborated with English composer Tom Hodge and the London Contemporary Orchestra for a tailor-made sonata, which subsequently inspired the collection. During the show, her opulent designs followed the scheme of the strings arrangement and became more dramatic with its crescendo.

5. "Girls" by Beastie Boys at Jeremy Scott
Jeremy Scott's tongue-in-cheek collections always warrant a funky beat to match, so it's no wonder that this Beastie Boys track made a cameo on Scott's runway. As the final single off their debut album, Licensed to Ill, this song was a shout-out to the models and their inimitable strut: "I like the way that they walk," raps Ad-Rock.

6. "I Think I Like It" by Fake Blood at Yigal Azrouël
This modish track by Fake Blood—a pseudonym for British DJ Theo Keating—straddles the line between electronica and funk in such a way that you can't help but sing along to its catchy lyrics and '70s inspired synth riffs. The Israeli designer was inspired by the energy of phantasm, and this number boasts something inherently supernatural.

7. "Yeah Yeah" by Willy Moon at Michael Kors
Willy Moon's sample-heavy harmonies look as if they will be a mainstay of the catwalks. The New Zealand-English singer knows how to mishmash his retro rockabilly vocals with modern day hip hop—just as he did in this number, which features the all too familiar backbeat from Amerie's "1 Thing".

8. "Climb Up on My Music" by Rodriguez at Billy Reid
Rodriguez, the sensation behind the documentary Searching for Sugar Man, has experienced a revival virtually unparalleled. Billy Reid, who has always incorporated rock and folk songs into his runway soundtracks, spread the newfound Rodriguez fever by setting his rustic collection against this psychedelic 1972 love ballad.

9. "More, More, More" by Andrea True at Diane von Furstenberg
Diane von Furstenberg journeyed back in time to her Studio 54 days with a soundtrack comprised of the disco queens of the '70s. This amorous groove, by singer and adult film star Andrea True, personified the era in which von Furstenberg rose to fame. It also added a certain sexy air to the collection.

10. "I'm in the Mood for Love" by Bryan Ferry at Oscar de la Renta
Despite all the hype and curiosity surrounding Oscar de la Renta's infamous guest designer, John Galliano, ODLR kept the mood cool, collected, and simply magnificent. This cover of a classic romantic serenade by English rocker Bryan Ferry added old-fashioned splendor and put us in the mood for love... and embellished chiffon, naturally.
