Beyoncé Leads New Gucci Empowerment Campaign

BEYONCÉ KNOWLES, Salma Hayek and Frida Giannini have launched a new Gucci global campaign for female empowerment, Chime For Change. The initiative aims to raise funds and awareness in support of projects for girls and women around the world, through sharing "powerful stories" about inspiring females.

"I have always felt strongly about equal opportunity for women. Girls have to be taught from early on that they are strong and capable of being anything they want to be," said Knowles. "It's up to us to change the statistics for women around the world. I'm honoured to be in the company of women who live fearlessly and set an example for the next generation of young ladies."

The campaign will be officially announced at the TEDxWomen luncheon today by Salma Hayek, who will present a short film detailing the aims of the scheme - narrated by the actress, and set to new music by Knowles (watch below). The video is the first in a series of ten Chime For Change short films featuring inspirational women's stories.

"I am proud to be joining the growing international movement on behalf of girls and women around the world," said Hayek. "I believe that by working together we can change the course of history to ensure that girls and women are empowered to realise their potential and thrive."

The Chime for Change campaign is also joined by an advisory board of experts and global advocates - including Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Jada Pinkett Smith, Francois-Henri Pinault, Gordon and Sarah Brown and Arianna Huffington. Gucci has a history of supporting women's rights movements - including a seven-year partnership with UNICEF in support of girls' education - as well as founding two female film awards; the Spotlighting Women Documentary Award and the Gucci Award for Women in Cinema with the Venice Film Festival.

"This is the emergency and the opportunity of today," said Giannini. "We have reached a significant moment in the history of girls' and women's empowerment and now is the time for change. I think it is essential for girls and women to see and celebrate what is possible. I hope that through Chime we can help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored."

The top 5 celebrity beauty lines to hit the shelves

Oh, you have your own fashion line and fragrance? So what! Nowadays, it seems that it’s not enough for you to just be a celebrity with your own clothing line, fragrance, shoes, the list can go on and on. Now, several celebs even have their own beauty product line! If you're wondering if any of these products are worth shopping for, read on to see which picks made my list.

Flower by Drew Barrymore

What it is: The former face of CoverGirl cosmetics, this actress/new mom is the latest to join the cosmetic club.
Her new line, Flower, features the tag line “Love The Way You Look.” Available for purchase at Wal-Mart and Walmart.com, there are 181 units in the collection that ranges from eyeliners to nail polish.

The packaging itself is pretty clean and simple which is great because (and this is just my personal opinion) beauty products that feature tons of embellishments are usually a turn off.
According to recent article in Women’s Wear Daily, which announced the launching of the line, the formulas are custom-made at the same price as those used in luxury products.
Key product: Lip Butter ($6.98, Walmart.com) Anything that has the word “butter” in it has to be amazing, right? Well, this is no different. Available in 9 shades (some are already sold out), this lip moisturizer glides on smooth and leaves lips feeling super soft with a hint of shine.

Nuance By Salma Hayek

What it is: Who knew that Salma harbored such a love for beauty products? The actress and mom is the brains behind beauty brand Nuance, an impressive array of cosmetics, hair as well as skincare products.
Inspired by her grandmother, Hayek says she created the line “to help every woman enhance the nuances that define her individual beauty.” Each product is available for purchase exclusively at CVS and CVS.com.
Key product: Anti-Aging Wrinkle Filler Eye Serum ($20, CVS.com) As a personal skincare product hoarder, it makes sense that I would gravitate more towards these items in the line. The Anti-Aging Wrinkle Filler Eye Serum contains one of those cooling rollerballs, which makes for easy application. Each of her skincare products boasts some type of “beauty secret” outlined on the side of the package so you can pretend that you’re exclusively privy to some exotic ingredients while applying.

CoverGirl Queen Collection by Queen Latifah

What it is: Rapping, acting, singing…there isn’t much this woman hasn’t done! She not only serves as the face of CoverGirl, but she’s also got her very own stand alone collection with the brand specifically targeted to women of color.
Key product: CoverGirl Queen Collection Jumbo Gloss Balm ($7.49, at Target and other drugstores nationwide) In addition to hoarding skincare products, I’m also known to do the same with lip gloss. However, this year, I’ve promised myself and the rest of my beauty blogging friends that I’m going to strictly stick to lipstick. However, this gloss balm is like the perfect hybrid between a lip gloss and a lipstick in that it leaves your lips super soft and hydrated with.

Meaningful Beauty By Cindy Crawford

What it is: Yes, she’s one of the most stunning women to ever walk the planet. Alright, so maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but you have to admit that Cindy Crawford is a pretty attractive lady. That’s basically how her skincare line started: she wanted to be able to maintain her beauty while still living her busy life. So, she partnered with French anti-aging specialist Dr. Jean Louis Sebagh (the man responsible for helping her to maintain that amazing skin of hers over the years) to develop her own line of skincare products.
Yahoo! Shopping Editor, Krista DeWeese has been using the Meaningful Beauty products for 5 weeks and noticed a huge difference in the texture and tone of her skin. Krista says, "In just a short amount of time, my skin is totally renewed. I've used many products over the course of a decade and haven't seen results this dramatic! My pores are disappearing and my skin tone is even, and I didn't even have to wait that long to see a difference."
Key product: Crème de Serum (bundled with the New Advanced System, $39.95, meaningfulbeauty.com and also available at Sephora inside of JCPenney stores) It’s already quite confusing to figure out whether or not you should use a cream or serum. This is why it’s a great thing that Cindy and Dr. Sebagh figured that we all needed both so she created this triple potency product that combines the power of a serum with the rich moisturizing effects of a cream. Genius!

Khroma Beauty by Kim, Kourtney & Khloe Kardashian

What it is: They’ve already oversaturated the clothing market, so why not add in beauty? Say what you want about these reality starlets, but their makeup always looks flawless, so it makes total sense that they would come out with their own line of cosmetics.
Key product: Khloe’s Kardazzle Face Palette ($12.99, ulta.com) While I can’t say that I’ve tested every single item in the cosmetic line, I can say that I am a fan of this palette that contains the perfect eyeshadow to create a nude, smoky eye. As an added bonus, it also contains a blush and bronzer so it’s perfect for on-the-go touch ups.
